What Kind of Anesthesia Is Used for a Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

As a rule, your cosmetic surgeon will use general anesthesia for this procedure. There are some surgeons who supplement the general anesthesia with an Epidural injection (such as is given during childbirth). While helping to reduce pain during the immediate post-operative period, some surgeons feel that epidural anesthesia might potentially cause more harm, by causing urinary retention and preventing the patient from moving around right away.

Pain Pumps are new devices that can help patients with post-operative pain. Pain Pumps are small reservoirs (the size of a “Walkman”) of local anesthetic that infuse Lidocaine or Marcaine into the wounds for the first 24-48 hours after surgery. Unlike Patient Controlled Anesthesia (PCA) which can only be administered in a hospital, Pain Pumps are sent home with the patient. Because they help keep the surgical areas anesthetized, they reduce the need for narcotics, therefore, lessening the post-operative incidence of nausea. While some patients like using them, others feel that they are not that effective and are instead cumbersome and hinder their mobility. Therefore, Dr. Younai gives his patients the choice of using a Pain Pump if they wish to have them.

You should pay special attention to the anesthesiologist who your plastic surgeon uses during surgery. Like your surgeon, the anesthesiologist literally holds your life in the balance. It is therefore critical that you put your life in the best hands.

Many patients have preconceived notions about the type of anesthesia that is best for them. Unfortunately, these thoughts are often based upon hearsay, or upon informal research that has no scientific basis. While you are the final arbiter of your treatment, only an experienced physician can guide you properly in making the crucial decision about your anesthesia.

This is not guesswork! Allow your physician to explain your safest anesthesia option.

Many facilities employ trained nurse anesthetists. However, it is optimal to have anesthesia administered by an anesthesiologist rather than a nurse. Preferably, your anesthesiologist should be certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

The anesthetized patient must be monitored meticulously and constantly, with consideration for all medical conditions. The best person to do this is a physician who is trained and experienced in the practice of medicine, in the specialty of anesthesia. This is especially important in surgical facilities that operate independently. In such freestanding facilities, a nurse anesthetist might not have the adequate supervision of a physician anesthesiologist, or the support system required to properly address emergencies.
You should be skeptical about promises that extensive cosmetic surgery procedures can be performed under local anesthesia in an office, procedure room, or even in an office surgery room. Having an extensive procedure performed under local or “twilight anesthesia” is not safer than having it done under general anesthesia. On the contrary, the risks of this “twilight sleep” might be greater because procedures that take two hours under general anesthesia will take several more hours when you are inadequately anesthetized locally. The risks that your condition will become unstable will increase under this circumstance. Also, you will then have to deal with the side effects of the longer acting anesthetics that remain in your system, even after you go home.

Converting Adobe Acrobat PDF file to MS Word files

Friday, March 31st, 2006

PDF (Portable Document Format) files are a common way to transmit, store and retrieve large documents. They are written and formatted in a very specific way and are meant to be “whole” rather than editable parts. Even though they may look like the same type of plain text or graphics that you might produce in a “word” program, they are markedly different. Think of them more in terms of a picture album with each whole page being an individual “snapshot.” Unless you use the right tool (converter program) you can no more take one small portion out of the “snapshot” than you can take one element out of a jpeg or other picture file without using “Photoshop”© or some other editing program.

So, how does one convert PDF files to Word documents? Typically, in order to alter the text in a PDF file you would need the original authoring password. This is true even if you want to “cut and paste” a portion of a PDF file into another document. Remember, the PDF format is essentially a “snapshot” or a graphic portrayal of text; it’s not really text itself in the true sense of the word. Because of its design it is difficult, if not impossible, to “copy and paste” a portion of a PDF file directly into a Word or other document. To do this you need a PDF to Word Converter program. This program converts PDF to Word files (or another text document format) by essentially interpreting the “snapshot,” which is the PDF file, and making it recognizable as a text file by “Word” or other word processing programs.

Fortunately there are many of these programs available. First look at your local software or office supply store. If you need something right away then a quick search of the internet will produce a number of PDF to Word converter programs that can be purchased at reasonable prices. Often you can download a “free” 30 day trial of the program so you can try it out before paying for it. There are “free” PDF to Word converter programs available for download also. Of course, as with all “free” programs you must be careful about spyware, adware and other types of malware that may be attached to the program.

PDF to Word Converter programs can be a useful tools. By converting PDFs to DOCs one can save hours of typing and editing (don’t forget about copyright and plagiarism issues of course!) You can try different programs, using the “Free Trial” offers, in order to find the best value and the one you’re most comfortable using. Remember, because you’re dealing with two different types of formats a good PDF to Word Converter program will be tremendously helpful in getting the job done.

Breast Enlargement Exercise - The Truth

Friday, March 31st, 2006

This article was written to educate you about the breast enlargement exercise myths. We will also touch on some options that are available to give you a fuller and more attractive bust.

The truth is breast enlargement exercises do not increase breast size. Breast enlargement exercises may give you a bigger measurement but cup size and breast size will not be increased. The larger measurement will be the result of increased muscle mass not breast enlargement. When you work a breast exercise regime the muscles behind the breasts, the pectorals, will indeed get larger. This in turn will give the illusion that your breast size has increased. As your pectorals get stronger they move outward due to the increase in muscle mass. This pushes the breasts out and will give them a “perkier” look. Perhaps even firm them up a little. Breast enlargement exercise is a good idea due to the fact that it increases blood flow to the chest area. This blood flow will bring nutrients that are vital to breast enhancement to the proper area.

A combination of exercise, massage, and breast building herbs, creams, and perhaps even estrogen will give the best results.

Let’s explore the use of breast building herbs, or phytoestrogens, that are known as plant-based estrogens. There are two types of these herbs, in pill form, common on the market today. One is a temporary breast enhancement option that only works when you continue to take the herbs. This is due to the fact that this type of herb works by causing the breasts to retain water. This will cause the breasts to swell over time. However when you quit taking the herbs water retention will stop and the breasts will return to their natural state.

The second type of breast enlargement herb, in pill form, will actually give you a more permanent breast size increase. This herb works by theoretically stimulating the cells in your breast to increase in size and multiply similar to the way they do in puberty. A firmer, fuller, and better looking breast that lasts is the result. The second method, breast enlargement creams, oils, or gels actually use the same herbs as mentioned above but in the form of a cream that is applied topically to the breasts. The breasts absorb the herbs and stimulate cell growth resulting in a fuller breast. This method usually produces results, over time, that are more permanent. Stimulation of cell growth in this manner is generally considered safe and will not increase the risk of breast cancer.

The third method is one that is not recommended due to the inherent dangers of breast cancer. The hormone estrogen. If it is taken in high enough doses it will increase breast size by stimulating growth of breast tissue. The stimulation of breast tissue in this manner also causes the risk of cancer to go up and should be avoided.

In review breast enlargement exercises alone will not increase breast size. When an exercise regime is used in conjunction with a herbal treatment program the greatest results in actual breast size will be achieved. There are several e-books on the market that give very solid advice on breast enlargement. If a larger bust is in your plans go to http://www.freefromfatdiet.com and browse through their excellent selection of e-books on this topic. E-books on issues women of all ages are concerned about can be found in their Women Only section.

Is Your New Business Kicking Your Behind?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

When you’re building a home based business, discouragement comes often. Money goes out faster than it comes in. Customers don’t seem to know you exist. How do you cope when you can’t pay the bills?

When I was dealing with these situations, taking the time to nurture my spirit and build belief in myself saved me. Taking time for whatever inspires you is a requirement for a new home based business owner. When you feel inspired, you’re tapping into something bigger than any problems you may have on your plate. Taking the time to do what inspires you, creates breathing room so you can see your challenges from a fresh perspective.

Have you heard the story about The Blind Men and the Elephant? Three blind men decided they wanted to know what an elephant felt like, since they couldn’t see one. When a merchant with a herd of elephants came along, he overheard them talking and offered to let them touch one of his elephants. The merchant led each man individually to different parts of the elephant. One man touched the forelegs, one touched the trunk, and one touched the tail.

Later the three men talked about their experience. Each one had a very different perspective. One said it must resemble two big trees. The second one said it was similar to a snake, long and round, and very strong. The third one said it was like a straw fan swinging back and forth to give a breeze, but not so big or well made.

The moral to this story is, how can anyone know what’s true until they can see the whole picture? We are like the three blind men, we don’t know the whole picture.

When we started our home business, I couldn’t see the whole picture. But I knew other people had built successful home businesses. I knew there was a way that I could do it too, if I stayed plugged into the energy and knowledge of those that had already been successful. I knew this energy would give me the inspiration and ideas I needed each step of the way. Where do those ideas come from? That is a question we each must answer for ourselves. In my case, I listened and took action when I received inspiration, and eventually I began to see the whole picture come into focus.

What is your source of inspiration? Maybe it’s a good book, a walk to clear your head, gardening, petting your dog, or talking to your coach. You have your own unique way of opening your mind, so that just the right ideas can present themselves to you. The key is to honor and act on those inspirations, so they will keep coming!

My question for you is – what inspires you?

Learn Basic Spanish Quickly & Easily With These 4 Steps

Friday, March 31st, 2006

It’s easy to learn basic Spanish, you just have to know how to go about it! Spanish is a pretty close language to English, so it may surprise you to find that there are so many similarities. Also, people tend to pick up Spanish from various movies and TV shows-you probably know a little without even realising. Stay tuned and I’ll show you how simple it is to learn basic Spanish.

Learn Basic Spanish 1

One of the most important things when learning anything new, languages included, is to stay motivated. It can be tough to introduce anything new into your life, making demands of your time etc-there’s still only 24 hours in a day, no matter how much you want to fit into it! One of the best ways to stay motivated is to keep track of what you learn-maybe make a list of all the words or phrases etc, then at the end of each week have a look through the list and see how it growing. Seeing your achievements in black and white like that can really spur you on to want more.

Learn Basic Spanish 2
Try and keep it regular. The human body works in patterns and routines. If you can introduce a regular pattern or routine for your studying, you will find it much easier. Seeing as you are only trying to learn basic Spanish, these routines need not disrupt the rest of your life. A great way to learn without taking time out from anything else is to get some kind of language tuition course on CD or MP3. That way you can then use it to utilise your “dead” time, like when you are at the gym, or driving to and from work. Leveraging time against itself like that can be a real key to getting more done.

Learn Basic Spanish 3
Buy a Spanish phrase book, and then rent some Spanish movies. It’s actually really good fun to sit there and use the phrase book to pick out words and sentences etc. Doing this will make you learn faster than you would imagine too, as it makes it fun. When your brain is engaged in an activity like this it’s often much easier to retain information, as you’re being stimulated into storing things, instead of simply learning by repetition.

Learn Basic Spanish 4
Meet some Spanish people! What could be a better way to learn than to find out first hand? Not only will you be learning the language, but you will be learning the culture too. This is a great way to learn because your ears will be able to pick up all kinds of subtleties in their speech which may be missing altogether in the phrases you learn from recordings.

It’s not hard at all to learn basic Spanish, with the right guidance and effort you can be speaking fairly confidently within a few weeks, and don’t forget once you have the basics down, the rest will come naturally. Check out the links below for more information about learning Spanish.

Playing Better Tennis

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Playing better tennis is something many people want to achieve. In this article I’ve tried my best to explain a few tennis myths and their actual truth.

Bend your knees on all of your shots

Truth - Do what you feel is necessary for each particular shot. If the ball comes in low, bend your knees a bit more. If the ball comes in high, bend your knees a bit less. Some players even strike the ball upwards instead of bending their knees. Do what you feel comfortable with and you should be fine.

Keep your eyes focused on the ball to strike the ball correctly

Truth – It doesn’t have anything to do with how much you look at the ball, only your judgment of where the ball is going to come. You can often hear tennis coaches say “keep your eyes on the ball!”, but that won’t help you hit the ball correctly, will it?

Plant your feet to the ground when you hit most of your shots

Truth – To have your feet planted to the ground isn’t the best idea for tennis, maybe for golf or weightlifting, but not for tennis. That certainly won’t result in you playing better tennis. You should just let your body move the way you want it to move, whatever it takes for you to perform the shot. If you watch a pro playing tennis on TV you’ll see that they bounce and jump when they hit the ball just as much as you want to. So you see this “planting your feet” thing might not be the way to go.

Keep your wrist firm on each individual stroke

Truth – It’s actually only the volleys at the net that requires a firm wrist. Pros twist and snap their wrist on overheads and serves to produce a nice spin on the ball. As for groundstrokes they roll their wrist upwards together with their entire body to produce maximum topspin. Again you should make your strokes as comfortable for you as possible, just do what it takes.

Don’t ever hit a groundstroke with your body facing the net

Truth – Again, just watch the pros as they often face the net when they strike the ball from the baseline. Don’t feel forced to strike with your body sideways to the net, whatever your coach says. Hit the ball the way that feels the most natural and comfortable to you and that will result in you playing better tennis.

Your Kids Can Learn Spanish With These 4 Simple Tips

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Want to get your kid to learn Spanish? Spanish is a very useful language to learn, and you could be giving your child significant advantages in later life by helping them learn it now. Spanish is the native language in 28 different countries, and all around the world over 330 million people are Spanish speakers. The world will only get smaller as communications get better, so follow these tips to help your child get a leg up and learn Spanish now…

Help Your Kid Learn Spanish-Tip 1
Open their eyes to different cultures. There are obviously different ways of doing this depending on the age of your children, but a good way to start is to introduce them to some different styles of food etc. Take them to Spanish restaurants, maybe even rent them some Spanish movies. Kids have an ability to learn which far outstrips us grown ups, and you can take advantage of that by being diverse with them in ways like this.

Help Your Kid Learn Spanish-Tip 2
Get them some courses. There are lots of modern Spanish courses which are great at teaching kids. Some of them have multimedia which can be used on their computers and even DVDs to watch. These things can be a tremendous advantage, but it’s important to give the learning some kind of structure. It will come much easier to the child if you can turn the studying into some kind of habit or routine.

Help Your Kid Learn Spanish-Tip 3
Choose a course which includes MP3s. Love them or hate them, it seems like MP3 players are here to stay. What better way to help your child learn Spanish than to put their tuition MP3s onto their Ipod so they can listen to them when they would normally be bored in the back of the car or something like that. Utilising “dead” time like that can boost anyone’s learning of anything.

Help Your Kid Learn Spanish-Tip 4
Don’t force them! There is nothing worse than being forced into something as a child and growing to hate it as an adult! This will surely put a stop to any advantages your child may have developed from learning to speak two languages, as if you force them into doing it it’s not really something they will do in later life by choice is it?

Helping your kid learn Spanish, or any other language can be a very narrow tightrope to walk. As an adult it’s tempting to force them into it as it’s what you believe is best, but this can be the wrong approach to anything regarding your children. Hopefully these tips will help you help them in a positive way. For more information about learning Spanish, check out the links below.
